SNAKE PARK

In Chennai, the Snake Park is situated next to the Guindy National Park. In 1972, the Madras Snake Park Trust was established and gained statutory recognition as a medium zoo from the Central Zoo Authority in 1995. It was founded by one of the prominent wildlife conservationist Romulus Whitaker. A number of snake species, lizards, crocodiles and turtles are housed here. More than 30 species of Indian snakes are here. King Cobra, Indian Rock Python, Reticulated Python, Adders and Vipers are some of the most sought after species.

Children’s Park is adjacent to the Snake Park in Guindy. An enjoyable collection of birds and animals are here in the Children’s Park. The elephant and pony rides are popular. You can enjoy with your family here.

MAHABALIPURAM TOURISM

Mahabalipuram is best tourist spot near Chennai. The rathas temple chariots are examples of rock-cut architecture. Narasimha I and Rajasimha, the great Pallava Kings have well preserved these stylistic qualities of rock-cut caves, temples made from a single rock, temples and strives of different structures. Life size elephant and other creatures like monkey are carved in granite.
The Pancha Rathas (five Rathas) where each Ratha is sculpted in a different style and they were all carved out of a single piece of granite in situ. A small rock-cut temple Varaha Cave Temple dating back to the 7th century. Pallava King in order to safeguard the sculptures from the ocean, the temple Thirukadalmallai was built and it was dedicated to Lord Vishnu. After building the temple, the remaining architecture was preserved and was not corroded by sea.
The historical and fascinating tourist spot is attracted by many is not only due to these architecture but the vast casuarinas trees, the silvery sandy beach the classical hand male crafts around have made them all to form what is a collective splendor. Any person who visits Mahabalipuram will remain startled and intoxicated with the grandeur.

“Amir Mahal” palace belongs to the family of Arcot. It is situated on an area of 14 acres. (approx.) The present Prince of Arcot, who is the eighth in accession, continues to live with his family, staff and servants and their family in the Amir Mahal. Amir Mahal was bult in 1789 and in 1870 it came into the possession of the Arcot Royal Family. The entry to Amir Mahal is allowed only with permission. Timings 10.00 to 18.00 hours. No Holiday.

Another Chennai Tourist Spot is Vandalur Zoo i.e.Arignar Anna Zoological Park. It is located in Vandalur which is 30 kms from Chennai. We can reach Vandalur Zoo easily by Bus, Call Taxi. The working hours are between 9.00 A.M. and 8.00 P.M. on all days. Tuesday is holiday. 5-7 vehicles operated by battery availale for rent. 15-20 people can be accommodated in each vehicle. From 2008 summer, Elephant safari is introduced. Nice place to visit.

Recently built (1976) Ashtalakshmi Temple is one of the Chennai – Tourist attraction Spot. It is few kilometers from Thiruvanmiyur Bus Stand. The temple is stands in the shores of Bay of Bengal in Besant Nagar. In this temple Goddess Mahalakshmi’s eight manifestations such as Sri Aadhi Lakhsmi, Sri Dhanya Lakhsmi, Sri Dhairya Lakhsmi, Sri Gaja Lakhsmi, Sri Santhna Lakhsmi, Sri Dhana Lakhsmi, Sri Vijaya Lakhsmi, Sri Vidya Lakhsmi are there. The temple was painted with multitude colours. It is wonderful to see the Ashtalashmi Temple in the background of sea.

VALLUVAR KOTTAM

In Memory of Poet and Saint Thiruvalluvar who wrote Thirukkurals about 2000 years before – Valluvar Kottam was constructed in 1976. This is the replica of the temple chariot at Thiruvarur. In the chariot 33m tall Thiruvalluvar statue has been installed. 1330 verses of Thirukkural are inscribed on bas-relief in the front hall corridors. 4000 people can sit in the auditorium. Dr.V.Ganapathi Sthapati is the architect for Valluvar Kottam.

Chennai- Most attractive Tourist Spot is “Marina Beach”. This is the second largest beach in a city. The beach is situated along a 12 km shoreline in Chennai and its width is 437 meters.
